Is it right …..?

Is it right that that virtual friends take the place of real friends?

Is it right that we know more about the lives of celebrities than about our neighbours?

Is it right that we engage with our virtual circle whilst eating dinner and ignore the loved one sitting next to us?

Is it right that we ignore the wisdom of the older generation and place to much emphasis on age rather than experience?

Is it right that we invest so much time following the lives of soap characters rather than investing time in our own lives?

Is it right that women are paid less for working the same job as a man ?

Is it right that so many people live in poverty in the world whilst others over consume and throw out some much food daily?

Is it right for countries to spend more on defence than on education which would empower and enrich the future generation so that harmony and working together options could be pursued instead of war?

Is it right to pollute the planet and not be concerned about the impact for future generations?

Is it right that we feel stressed and overwhelmed but do nothing to rebalance ?

Is it right to feel that as an individual you can not make a difference?

The reality is we can all as individuals be instrumental in the change for good.

New year New thinking !

Three Simple Steps to Start the New Year

The end of the calendar year represents the completion of one cycle and the start of another. It’s a time to let go of the past and to free ourselves from that which no longer serves our highest good. To do this, we need to first change our energy, because when we change our energy, we change our lives.

As one cycle draws to a close and another begins, here are three simple steps you can take to change your energy and your life.

Forgive the past. When beginning a new cycle, forgiveness is especially important. When we forgive, we let go of all the self-limiting emotions that are associated with various people (ourselves included) and conditions in our lives—negative emotions that cause us to feel a certain way, hold our attention, give away our power to everyone and everything outside of us, and consume unnecessary amounts of our energy.

If where we place our attention is where we place our energy, when we are no longer beholden to these negative emotions such as anger, fear, resentment, or disappointment, we take back our power. This is liberated energy that’s available to create new things in our life. Now, not only have you taken back your energy, but in the process you’ve freed yourself from these negative emotions, as well freed the person you’ve been unconsciously giving away your power to. By breaking the energetic bonds with everyone and everything in your past-present reality that no longer serves you, you can use that once frozen energy to create a new future. At the same time, that person you just freed just might show up differently in your future as well.

Take an inventory. The year’s end is also an opportunity for each of us to pause, take inventory, and observe all the things that have unfolded for us in the previous year. What have you achieved, accomplished, and created? Take time to celebrate those aspects of your life. What has been left unfinished or incomplete? Are there elements of your personality that you don’t want to take with you into 2018? If so, get clear on them and on what you need to change about yourself. When done correctly, this process of self-reflection and contemplation allows us to see the abundance in our lives, as well as any personal limitations that keep our dreams from manifesting. Now we should have a better understanding of what we want to do next, create, and become.

Give. If the divine within us is the epitome of abundance—a giver and provider of all of life—if we want to emulate the divine, then we too should give back from our year’s abundance, whether it’s our wealth, joy, spirit, attention, presence, service, and so on. It makes sense then that if we have excess of any ‘thing’ in our lives, it means we know how to create it well enough that we have more than we need. Therefore, when you give some of it away, your action is a statement to the universe that you know how to create more of it—and that you are abundant. This is a way to celebrate and acknowledge not only ourselves as the divine creators of our lives, but the divine within us.

To give creates flow in our lives, even if it’s something so small as buying a homeless person a meal or offering your ear to someone who needs to be heard. You just never know how big of an impact that act of giving can be for the receiver. By giving, by serving, by taking care of others, by being selfless—this act both liberates energy and creates elevated emotions in our life, because when we start giving, we start generating emotions such as abundance, love, and freedom. The side effects are that you experience more joyful feelings that touch and expand your heart—and you wake up more of the divine within you. It’s this very act of giving and selflessness that sometimes creates new movement, flow, and expansion in our life.

So what are you waiting for? As 2017 draws to a close, take some time to find stillness, set your intentions for the new year, get clear on your new vision, and learn from your mistakes. It’s this type of self-reflection and contemplation that sets us up for new beginnings. It’s time to evolve from the old to the new, and in order to do this you need to change your energy.

Every journey or change in our life begins with a first step, and when enough steps add up, we find ourselves in a whole new territory and environment. The next thing we know, the conditions we’ve engendered by stepping into these new territories creates a cascade of positive change in our lives beyond which we could have ever imagined.

So go ahead—start changing your life today by changing your energy. Start by forgiving the past, taking inventory of the present, and giving into the future.

Continual thanks to Dr Joe contribution to improving the wellbeing of so many.

Spirituality Vs Science

Spirituality vs science was the hot theme of conversation at the Science Museum on Monday night. An insightful question and answer session between Jo Marchant a New York Times best seller and Sadhguru a yogi and speaker from India. The session revealed a passionate response from both speakers.

The Science fraternity raised objections to the Science Museum about  Sadhguru as a speaker since he was not deemed to be a true scientist. This perplexed me since unlike religions I have always felt that the science community was an inclusive group ready to gain knowledge for the progression of science. The objection reveals a level of intellectual snobbery, prejudice and closed mindedness.

I have always felt taking an open minded approach and a willingness to learn anything that may contribute to individuals advancement and happiness was wise.

Summarising the evenings conversation. Considering the scientific approach first. Science is a constantly moving frontier and our understanding and knowledge is constantly being updated and shaped by new theories. Due to this fact science is only as current today since new finding will eventually replace existing theorems.

Medicine is always in a flux of new revelations. Only a decade ago we thought that stomach ulcers were due to life style and dietary factors alone. However some were due to a bacterial infection. The surgery was subsequently replaced by a combination of antibiotics for some. The surgeons prior to this time based on their existing, knowledge would have believed radical surgery was the only approach. As scientist we have to believe we only have pieces of the jigsaw and from that we are trying to postulate the whole picture. Scientific research has yielded many benefits such as better health and longevity.

Scientific intervention may solve immediate problems but its far reaching leagacy is often overlooked by the shorter term gain’s. For eg better transportation makes our lives easier but the emissions will have long term consequences for our future generations and planet. Scientific exploration will always continue since humans have a natural thirst for learning and trying to piece the puzzle together but at what far reaching cost is the question. We can not also overlook the fact that science is not just for pure exploration and research to help humanity but is now also about politics, economics and power.

Science may create an environment for healing but every doctor and scientist will tell you the actual healing occurs from within by a complex web of systems orchestrated together harmoniously. Which science has yet to model.

The Spiritual side of the debate adopted the approach of first learning to understand our own inner mechanisms prior to understanding the external systems. Sadhguru eloquently explained that by dissecting a human being we can not really know the human since a human being is not just a sum of its parts it is a sophisticated energy system interacting with the surrounding energy. Dissecting destroys the very thing we are examing. Infact dissecting and considering individuals organ systems may be producing dysfunctional medicine. Since treating one system may indeed solve the problem for that organ but the side effects unbalance other systems. Taking a more complete approach is sometimes overlooked since each specialty is focused on their own therapeutic targets.

Science may feel very advanced but it is comparatively modern compared to spiritual practice. Ancient wisdom and spiritual practices have had a prominent place in the Eastern culture. This wisdom and innate understanding should not always be discarded since modern science may not have the tools or equipment to fully explain ancient beliefs currently. After all atoms and cells existed prior to the invention of microscopes. Spirituality focuses on energy and its flow and in time science will gain a greater comprehension of this intricate system that eastern mystics describe as chi and prana. Fundamentally science can not deny that we are all energy clumped together as matter.
Modern science with all of its endeavour can not fabricate a human being thus the spiritual approach is to gain a deeper understanding of ones self. Since many of the answers to life’s questions are within. If we can gain understanding and awareness of our own bodies we can also learn to self and upregulate them. By understanding our own system’s we can eventually understand universal systems. An example of this self understanding was explored by a man called Wim Hof (The Ice Man),  who by regulating his breathing rate was able to stay in subzero temperatures without experiencing hyperthermia. He explored this for himself first and now science is studying him to observe changes in his physiology and biochemistry. Science does not have to always lead the way. As individuals we can observe ourselves and regulate to enhance our experiences.

Medical scientific studies are always carried out with a placebo group and drug trial group. Often the placebo group will benefit just as well as the drug trial group. The power of the mind and the core belief systems of the participants are often overlooked by scientific approach and yet they produce significant clinical results. So could spirituality be a piece of the puzzle that science needs to also factor in?
I feel thankfully that the gap between science and spirituality is being bridged by more scientist and medical teams and that it is no longer as black and white as it once was. Hence this an exciting time since individuals are on a path of self discovery and not totally let by science and religion. Thus taking back power and control for our own health and lives.
A huge thank you to Dinesh for inviting me to this thought provoking evening and it was a huge privilege to meet Sadhguru in person.
Keep those mind open to new inputs and the outputs will change.

The art of listening

When you talk, you are only repeating what you already know, but if you listen you may learn something new.                            Dalai Lama

The Dalai Lama words are so wise. For the most part our egos want us to show others what we know, how knowledgeable and clever we are. But the wisest people take time to listen to  others. This helps to gain greater understanding and perspective. Ultimately expanding our own inner library of awareness.

Every person we are aligned with has a unique message to exchange and therefore it is an opportunity to learn something new. Taking time to engage with others on a personal level yields dividends of a broader experience.

Take time for self observation during the next conversation you have how much of the time do you actually listen? Do you interrupt the conversation or does you mind wander off and therefore you are no longer actually listening.

Self mastery is a fundamental skill which needs our constant attention. We need to be at the helm of our own ships rather than someone else nagivating our lives. Self understanding is the first step towards making changes and breaking old patterns and habits.

Listen to others as well as in the silence listening to your own inner voice. Since this inner voice will act as a compass and guides you constantly. Learning to tune into the real knowledge is working towards self mastery.

Mental nourishment

Box sets of TV dramas may help you relax and unwind but I find listening or watching inspirational stories and ideas uplifting and expansive, thought proving as well as recharging.

I am a huge fan of Oprah’s Super soul conversations series available as podcast. Recently she interviewed Eckhart Tolle a very humbling and grounding conversation.

Also on the list of inspiration for the ears has to be the Hay house podcasts and HayHouse radio. Amazing motivational speakers sharing their messages and life experiences.

Audible books are also a great way to increase your knowledge as well as unwinding after a busy day.

Technology is such a great advancement. Information is available at our finger tips 24/7. But we have responsibility of how we utilise this medium. We have to take ownership for our personal development plans and advancement in seeking greater knowledge and understanding.

We are directly influenced by the people around us as well as the virtual world we hang around in. So chose wisely for your own inner balance and mental elevation.

Sending love and blessing as always xxx
